The mayor, Noelia Arroyo, accompanied by the Director General of Sports, Fran Snchez, visited the renewed outdoor tennis courts of the Central Pavilion of Wsell de Guimbarda on Tuesday, June 10. The project, with an investment of 177,000 euros, has led to the construction of three courts where there were previously only two, with a new design that maintains the same structure, colors, and logos of the municipal outdoor courts.

«With this effort, we continue to improve municipal sports infrastructure so that, regardless of the level, all Cartagena residents can access the practice of a sport,» said Arroyo. The project, funded 50% by the City Council and the Autonomous Community, has allowed the conditioning of a clear surface of 2,000 m by removing old fences and separating walls.

The main objective of these courts, which serve the Municipal Tennis School, is to promote sports among the younger population and meet the growing demand of the tennis school, which currently caters to 180 students and, thanks to these new courts, will increase its capacity to 275 enrolled students, reducing the waiting list by 30%.

This project adds to other recent investments, as highlighted by the mayor, such as the investment of over 2 million euros in the athletics track (including grandstand for 450 spectators, changing rooms, and energy improvements), 600,000 euros in the Sports Palace to increase capacity, improve changing rooms, and enhance lighting, to which a new investment for the digitization and improvement of energy efficiency of the Palace will now be added.

The Director General of Sports, Fran Snchez, emphasized the collaboration that the Autonomous Community maintains with the City Council of Cartagena for the promotion of grassroots sports and also for the organization of major sports events, highlighting the strong commitment that the mayor, Noelia Arroyo, has made to this matter in the last two years.

«The most important thing is that sports are at the center of the lives of Cartagena residents,» said the Director General, who stated, «We are aware of the improvements that need to be made in each municipal facility, and the Regional Government will continue on that path with the City Council of Cartagena.»
