The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, has announced that the city will have two inclusive changing rooms, which will open soon in the city center and next to the Sports Palace, «we are one of the few Spanish cities that have an Accessibility Office and we are going to be one of the few that have 2 inclusive changing rooms, we are once again at the forefront of many cities,» she said.

As the first municipal authority commented, «the project has the support of parents who have been demanding these types of facilities to be able to enjoy the city with their children on equal terms with the rest,» also «it is also very important from a tourist point of view, because many families will choose to visit Cartagena, thanks to this public service that is not available in all cities,» she added.

The first municipal authority has inaugurated the IV Fair of Associations of People with Disabilities ‘Inclusiones’, in Plaza Juan XXIII, and this year it extends its duration, which will be until next Tuesday, the 18th, at the request of the more than 40 participating entities with which the City Council has designed a program that exceeds 90 activities, «we count on them to organize from the most playful, like the program of this fair, to the aspects that condition their daily lives,» she explained.

Arroyo emphasized that this Fair, «is an example of why Europe has awarded us, with Cartagena recognized as the Most Accessible Spanish City and the third in Europe in the ‘Accessible European City 2025’ Awards of the European Commission along with Vienna and Nuremberg, in addition to receiving the National Award Queen Letizia for Disability».

The event includes activities such as photocall, live concerts, sports competitions, magic shows, inclusive theater, and live art demonstrations, and on Sunday, each association will be presented with a diploma that reproduces the European trophy, as recognition of their collaboration. The ‘Inclusiones’ fair precedes the XV Elderly Fair, which will take place from March 21 to 23, consolidating Cartagena as a reference in the promotion of inclusion and social well-being.

Strong social commitment

The Area of Social and Gender Policy has a budget of 4.7 million euros, 16.4% more than the previous year. Of this amount, nearly a million is for competitive tendering for social action entities in the municipality, and a specific allocation of 135,000 for universal accessibility projects.
�
In addition, next April, Center 2 of Social Services, as well as the Childhood and Adolescence Unit and the Immigration and Development Cooperation Unit, will start operating at the Peninsular Hotel on Cuatro Santos Street, in renovated facilities that will allow an improvement in the care quality of these municipal services.
