Cartagena celebrates until next Sunday the XV Senior Fair, which the mayor, Noelia Arroyo, has described as a showcase to promote resources aimed at improving their quality of life, but also to highlight what they contribute with their social involvement and knowledge.

Arroyo has emphasized that the municipal government has made a significant effort in the 2025 budget with the aim of providing the Department of Seniors with more financial resources to increase services and attention to senior citizens.

In this regard, she has pointed out that the Home Care service has tripled, going from 2.8 million to 6.4 million, to reach about 1,000 users. She has also mentioned Telecare, the Family Respite program, or the Home Meal service, as well as the Day Centers of Los Dolores and El Algar which add up to 50 places.

However, she has particularly drawn attention to the activities organized in Cartagena aimed at seniors to keep them active, as well as those carried out by the 42 senior clubs, which bring together more than 10,000 members.

The Fair has been conceived as a meeting and intergenerational coexistence space, in addition to being an opportunity for seniors to discover new opportunities and resources.

In this regard, one of the main attractions of the Fair, which features 50 stands of companies and entities that the mayor has been able to see first-hand, is an innovative collaborative housing alternative for seniors from the Cohousing Association of the Region of Murcia.

Furthermore, the fair welcomes entities such as the College of Pharmacists of the Region of Murcia, Red Cross, ACCEM, Afa Levante, Afibrocar, the Senior Federation, and various local associations, which bring to the public the work they do.

The event offers a varied and participatory program of activities, including intergenerational dances, informative talks, giant games, art workshops, displays of traditional trades, hiking, adapted gymnastics, laughter therapy, and musical performances, such as the Sauces band. The fair also has a space dedicated to health, where podiatric information, blood pressure, blood sugar, and hearing measurements are provided, along with tips to protect oneself from the sun.
