Next Monday, March 17, the Severo Ochoa square dissuasive parking will be open to the public for free, which has a total of 134 spaces, 4 of them for electric vehicles, as it has recharging stations, plus 19 spaces for motorcycles and areas for personal mobility vehicles, with an intelligent parking system for 20 units, which has a repair area.

Dissuasive parkings reduce the number of vehicles entering the urban area, as travelers can park their cars in them and access the city either with VMP or public transport.

The parking has a system for detecting available spaces through artificial vision, which will use cameras to identify in real time the occupied and available spaces to inform users of space availability through a screen visible from the outside.

In this case, users of this facility can directly connect with the bike lanes of Jorge Juan, ngel Bruna and Ronda de La Unin or take the Line 3: schedules, stops, and maps – Canteras (Updated) or the Line 9. Icue Bus 2 – Alsa Cartagena, which runs an extensive urban route with a circular route through the Alameda, Plaza de Espaa, Serreta, Puerto, Cuesta del Batel, or the Bus Station.

Additionally, next to the parking, there is a new bus stop that will facilitate boarding on the two lines that run through the area, which could see an increase in frequency according to the demand for the use of the traffic dissuasion facility.

The City Council is now working on the development of regulations for parking usage to prevent inappropriate and abusive use of the infrastructure and ensure they fulfill the purpose for which they were built, not as permanent parking lots.

It is about establishing a set of clear rules on the type of vehicle that can use the parking, maximum daily parking times, as well as possible sanctions for non-compliance with these rules. Dissuasive parkings are not permanent parking lots, and their goal is to discourage the use of private cars, promoting a more sustainable and efficient mobility in the city center.

From its opening next Monday until the parking rules are definitively established, this phase will serve to observe the movements and habits of users, as it has cameras, so that the most appropriate restrictions can be assessed.
