The Local Government Board of the City Council of Cartagena, meeting this morning under the presidency of the mayoress, Noelia Arroyo, has approved the acquisition from the Ministry of Defense of Monte de Galeras along with the castles and fortifications of Fajardo and Podadera, thus completing the urban agreement signed in 1996, which was pending the transfer of a parcel that could not be carried out.
Through this agreement, the Local Government Board accepts as final consideration, the transfer of various military properties of equivalent value.
Among these properties are the mountain and fortifications of Galeras, Fajardo, and Podadera, in which the City Council plans to carry out recovery and tourism exploitation projects.
As the mayoress explained, this is an exciting city project that aims to connect Cartagena from lighthouse to lighthouse, through the recovery and enhancement of its fortifications, castles, and batteries.
In the coming days, it is expected that the mayoress, Noelia Arroyo, will sign the transfer agreement with the Ministry of Defense officials, where detailed information about the content of this agreement will be provided.
CABO DE PALOS WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT IMPROVES ITS PURIFICATION PROCESS
The Local Government Board has also approved the dosing project of aluminum sulfate at the Mar Menor Sur wastewater treatment plant in Cabo de Palos, which will be tendered and executed by the regional company ESAMUR, with a budget reaching €351,869.60. This is a fundamental action to improve the quality of the water discharged into the sea; while the central government plans and implements its commitments to create a tertiary treatment system at this plant and another for the improvement of its submarine outfall.
The dosing of aluminum sulfate at the Mar Menor Sur wastewater treatment plant will represent a substantial advance by achieving a significant reduction in phosphorus and nitrogen load that the plant discharges into the sea. By removing these contaminants, the effluent from the plant will be of higher quality, directly contributing to water transparency, promoting the recovery of biodiversity and species such as Posidonia.
IMPROVEMENTS IN SCHOOLS AND CULTURAL SPONSORSHIPS
The Local Government Board has also approved a budget of €70,000, coming from a grant from the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, for the improvement of infrastructure in public schools for Early Childhood and Primary Education.
In the cultural field, €70,000 has been approved thanks to a collaboration agreement with Repsol Petrleo S.A. for the 2025 International Festival La Mar de Msicas, as well as contributions from Hozono Global, amounting to €40,000, and Hidrogea, contributing €20,000.
SPORTS AGREEMENTS
In the sports area, the subscription of collaboration agreements with the Cartagena Athletics Club and the La Palma Sports Association (CODELPA) has been approved, for a total amount of €36,000, for the development of athletics programs and other sports activities, respectively.
It has also been agreed to extend the agreement with UCAM, for an amount of €2,000, for the development of the «Walking Football» program for people over 50, with the aim of promoting physical activity among seniors and obtaining scientific data on the specific benefits of sports practice in elderly individuals.
