The Cartagena City Council will soon initiate the gardening services contract in the West Coast area, awarded to STV company for 184,958.63 euros (including VAT), marking the completion of the tendering and award process that covers the maintenance of parks and gardens throughout the municipality. This strategic action, starting this Tuesday in the West Coast, reaffirms the local government’s commitment to the quality of life of citizens, environmental sustainability, and the improvement of green heritage.

This new contract is part of a management scheme that was divided into «four large zones» to ensure more efficient and specialized attention to each area of the municipality. The investment in these maintenance services, which together doubled the previous expenditure on green areas, from 5 to over 10 million euros, aims to guarantee a more well-kept and enjoyable urban environment for everyone.

The councilor for Presidency, Urban Planning, and Infrastructure, Diego Ortega, emphasized the importance of this initiative for the city, stating that «we are firmly committed to improving our green spaces. The implementation of this comprehensive gardening maintenance contract throughout the municipal area is a demonstration of our effort to offer better environments to the residents of Cartagena, as it is a direct investment in their well-being and the beautification of Cartagena.»

The service in the West Coast, initially temporary for six months with the possibility of extension, and prior to a broader agreement of two years, covers approximately 100,553.13 m² of established gardens, 2,216 trees, and 2,447 palm trees. It extends to localities and urbanizations such as Campillo de Adentro, El Mojón, U.A. 5.2, Isla Plana, La Azohía, La Chapineta, and Urb. San Ginés, and includes not only traditional gardening tasks but also urban furniture maintenance and small infrastructure works.

From a social and political perspective, the realization of this contract reflects a clear commitment from the City Council to improve the quality of life of citizens by offering well-maintained green spaces that promote recreation, health, and community.

Furthermore, environmental sustainability is reinforced, as the technical specifications include criteria that ensure compliance with regulations and responsible management of plant waste, minimizing ecological impact. This initiative also demonstrates efficient management of public resources, with the division of the service into lots and a strategic investment that seeks maximum efficiency in providing an essential public service.
