The Local Development and Employment Agency (ADLE) of the Cartagena City Council has launched the experiential employment and training program (PEEF) «ADLE Historic Spaces of the Old Town of Cartagena». This ambitious initiative, subsidized by the Regional Employment and Training Service (SEF) of the Region of Murcia and co-financed by the municipality itself, has an investment of over a million euros.

The program has enabled the hiring of a team of expert professionals for 12 months, including management, administrative assistant, job prospector, and specialized teachers. In addition, 40 unemployed long-term job seekers over the age of 25 have been hired under the alternative training modality.

The Councilor for Employment, Training, and Hiring, lvaro Valds, highlighted that the program, «which follows the government strategy of Mayor Noelia Arroyo,» is a clear example of the Cartagena City Council’s commitment to the employment integration of individuals in unemployment and to the revitalization of our historical heritage. «We are not only offering a real opportunity for the future to 40 long-term unemployed individuals, training them in trades in high demand in our city, but we are also investing in the recovery and beautification of iconic spaces such as the Concepcin Castle or the Roman Forum District,» added Valds.

Participants will receive training in four specialties related to professional certificates in gardening, masonry, photovoltaic solar installations, and plumbing, areas selected based on the employability needs identified in the New Industries Training Table of Cartagena and in response to the real demand of the local productive fabric.

In addition, they will receive complementary training in key competencies such as occupational risk prevention, digital skills, environmental protection, gender equality, forklift handling, application of phytosanitary products, work at heights, handling of lift platforms, promotion of self-employment and social economy, and active job search, with a special emphasis on the YoEmpleo and Loro applications of the ADLE.

In this regard, Valds emphasized that a triple impact is expected from this initiative: a significant increase in the employment rates of the participants, aligning with the guidelines of our New Industries Training Table; a tangible community development through the rehabilitation of public spaces that will improve the quality of life in the Old Town; and a revaluation of our local heritage, promoting tourism and pride in our history.

The program, which actively contributes to the conservation and enhancement of the historical heritage of Cartagena, with interventions in emblematic spaces such as the hill of the Castle Park of Concepcin (including the surroundings of the Tower of Homage), will also be carried out in the Roman Forum District, in the surroundings of the Archaeological Park of Molinete
