The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, and the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, have inaugurated the expansion of the Isaac Peral Neighborhood Health Center, a prominent project for the neighborhood that has required an investment of 2.5 million euros, and houses expanded units for women’s health, pediatrics, and physiotherapy.

Arroyo highlighted institutional collaboration, emphasizing that this work responds to a priority neighborhood demand. «More than 23,000 users and the professionals working here will now have adequate, spacious, and comfortable facilities, in line with the needs of a neighborhood in full expansion like the Isaac Peral Neighborhood,» said the mayor, who recalled that this action adds to other improvements made in the last two years, such as the study room, the greenway, and street paving.

The mayor of Cartagena also referred to another prominent project for the Isaac Peral Neighborhood area: the Rosa Park Nursery, which has been put out to tender today after solving technical issues on the land that required the initial project to be reformulated.

«There are nearly 100 spots, which will allow us to exceed a thousand spots in nursery schools in Cartagena and will also be free starting from the next school year in September,» emphasized Arroyo, highlighting that «we are very proud of this positive news because we are responding to what the neighbors ask of us: a useful policy in the service of the general interest.»

During the inauguration of the new health center, other healthcare projects for Cartagena were reviewed, such as the Santa Ana Polygon Health Center, currently in the bidding phase with eight offers received; the second Mental Health Center in El Parchés and improvements in the Addictive Behaviors Unit, financed with 1.5 million euros from European funds. It also highlighted the need to strengthen healthcare staff in the municipality, in line with the regional plan that foresees the incorporation of over 100 professionals to Health Area II.

The expansion of the Isaac Peral Neighborhood Health Center means expanding the healthcare infrastructure of the neighborhood by 1,900 new square meters. This project is part of the Primary Care Improvement Strategy 2023-2026, which aims to modernize the local healthcare infrastructure.

Finally, the mayor concluded her remarks by emphasizing that these initiatives «are not just investments in buildings, but in quality of life,» and reaffirmed her commitment to continue working for Cartagena «to grow equitably, with public services that respond to the real demands of its residents.»

For his part, the President of the Community, Fernando López Miras, took the opportunity to announce that «the Region of Murcia becomes the first autonomous community in Spain to expand flu vaccination to minors, up to nine-year-old children during the fall of 2025.» According to the data provided by the regional government leader, more than 65,000 minors will benefit, and «it is another commitment to our public healthcare, with the Region of Murcia being the autonomous community in Spain with the most comprehensive vaccination calendar.»
