The exhibition ‘The Voyages of Leonardo da Vinci’ can be visited from this Wednesday, April 2nd until the next month of October at Castillo de la Concepción. The exhibition, organized by Fundación Sophia in collaboration with Cartagena Puerto de Culturas and the Cartagena City Council, brings together over a hundred pieces that allow visitors to delve into the mind of one of the greatest creators in history. During the exhibition’s inauguration, Mayor Noelia Arroyo, accompanied by Tourism Councillor Beatriz Sánchez, highlighted its value as a cultural and tourist resource for the city. «We want Parque Torres to become, like in our parents’ time, a place for Cartagena residents to stroll. And one way to achieve this is to offer attractive exhibitions like this,» she pointed out.

The exhibition is structured as a vital and creative journey of the artist, from his childhood in Vinci to his final years in France, passing through the cities that marked his career: Florence, Milan, and Rome. Visitors can learn about not only the painter but also the engineer, anatomist, philosopher, architect, and visionary who left a universal legacy.

Among the most notable pieces are several machines reconstructed from designs in the Atlantic Codex, such as a catapult, a revolving bridge, the flying machine, flapping wings, and a gear system for a bicycle similar to the present-day one. Replicas of his workshop, anatomical studies, measuring instruments, and representations of the Vitruvian Man and the golden ratio are also on display. The exhibition also includes sensory experiences like the Camera Obscura and spaces dedicated to the smile of the Mona Lisa, one of the most studied faces in art history.

«It’s impossible not to be amazed by this exhibition. Who isn’t astonished to discover that Leonardo envisioned the diving suit, or a photographic camera mechanism centuries before it existed,» commented the mayor during her visit.

Accessibility Works at Parque Torres

Arroyo visited the set of works that the Cartagena City Council is finalizing to improve accessibility at Parque Torres. This project, with a budget exceeding 300,000 euros, includes five interventions in different areas of the park, with ramps, stair lifts, and adapted pavements for people with reduced mobility or visual impairments.

«The park is already accessible from sea level to the top of the castle, but now we are expanding the routes and improving conditions for all types of visitors,» stated Arroyo. The works have been planned to not interfere with the activity at the Paco Martín Auditorium and are in their final phase.

Additionally, the council plans to soon tender a complementary project, with an investment exceeding 730,000 euros, which includes installing an internal elevator to connect the new restaurant under construction with the auditorium, enhancing mobility in the heart of the venue.
