The Club de Amigos de la Historia del Fútbol de Cartagena has organized, in collaboration with the Cartagena City Council and the Military Historical Museum, a commemorative event for the 40th anniversary of the feat achieved in 1985 by the Club Deportivo Naval, when they won the Spanish U-23 Football Championship.

The events, where the team members will be honored, took place this Wednesday, June 18 at the Municipal Archive and the Military Historical Museum of Cartagena, with the presence of the Sports Councillor, José Martínez.

First, there was a projection of images from the history of the Club Deportivo Naval and the teams that preceded it, such as the Club Deportivo Cartagenero or the Consejo Ordenador de las Construcciones Navales Militares, all linked to the historic shipyard of Cartagena: Bazán.

Subsequently, there was a second projection of photos and videos of the match in which the title was won, narrated by Pepe Egea – a historic player, coach, and president of Efesé – who was also present at the event. In fact, he started his sports career at Naval, eventually playing in the First Division after being signed by Valencia CF.

Speakers at the event included Luis Miguel Pérez Adán, Official Chronicler of Cartagena; Jaime Cros, sports journalist who narrated the match in which Naval won the championship; and the president of the Club de Amigos de la Historia del Fútbol de Cartagena, Domingo López Castiñeyras; and Tomás Martínez Pagán, among others.

The day concluded at Parque de Los Juncos, which for years hosted the playing field of the Club Deportivo Naval and where a monument was erected in the place of one of the goalposts, which the City Council has restored and adapted for the occasion, including a QR code linking to the club’s history.
