Cartagena now has a professional billiards room at the Palacio de Deportes, a space adapted to the highest technical standards that will allow the organization of major competitions and becomes the new headquarters of the Club Billar Casino Cartagena, the oldest in national billiards.

The mayoress, Noelia Arroyo, visited the new facilities on Tuesday, June 24, highlighting that «today we take a leap in quality in billiards practice in Cartagena.» According to the mayor, the new room «responds to a historical demand of the Club Billar Casino Cartagena, two-time champion of Spain and with more than enough successes to deserve these facilities.»

With a municipal investment of over 30,000 euros, the adaptation has included air conditioning, specific lighting, technical flooring, painting, and improvements in the English patio. To this provision is added the contribution of the club, which has installed four professional tables — two of them valued at 18,000 euros — screens, scoreboards, and showcases. The High Performance Center (CAR) in Los Alcázares has collaborated by providing grandstands for the public.

«The room is born with a triple vocation: to serve as a stable headquarters for the club, to offer a professional environment to its elite players, and to host major competitions that project the image of Cartagena,» said the mayoress, during the presentation event which also had the presence of the president of the Club Billar Casino Cartagena, Mario Mercader, José Carrasco, president of the Billiards Federation of the Region of Murcia, Francisco Tallon, president of the Royal Spanish Billiards Federation, and Carlos Anguita, current Absolute Spanish champion, from the Club Billar Casino Cartagena, among other club members and a multitude of fans, friends, and family members.

Thanks to the signing of agreements with the Royal Spanish Billiards Federation, the Billiards Federation of the Region of Murcia, and the club itself, the room will host regional trials, Spanish championships, and two World Championships in September of this year.

The new installation is also integrated into the ADE school sports program. «Thanks to the initiative of the Club Billar Cartagena, an educational project with folding tables has already been launched in more than a dozen schools,» explained the mayoress. This activity will introduce billiards as a sport in the physical education curriculum.
