The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, visited the facilities of Asido on Wednesday during an open day for World Down Syndrome Day #JustLikeYou, where she reiterated the support of the City Council for the association’s flagship projects: the supported housing and day center being built in El Bohío, on a plot donated by the City Council to the association.

During the visit, Arroyo highlighted the work of Asido, an organization that has been promoting the inclusion of people with Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, and other special needs for over 30 years. «These individuals have the same rights and deserve the same opportunities. That’s why, from the City Council, we are committed to projects like supported housing and the day center in El Bohío, which will change their lives and those of their families,» said the mayor.

The visit allowed for a review of the progress of this key initiative for Asido, which has the support of the municipal government and includes the creation of a therapeutic garden for sensory stimulation, as well as other projects related to work integration.

Arroyo emphasized that for full inclusion to occur, it must extend to all areas: «We’re talking about employment, housing, culture, or sports,» and added that «we must ensure the care of people with disabilities throughout their lives, encouraging society as a whole to support Asido’s projects, as they need the involvement of businesses, institutions, and society in their projects for them to succeed.»

With over three decades of experience, Asido Cartagena works to ensure comprehensive care for people with intellectual disabilities at all stages of their lives, from early intervention to active aging programs.

Tono, a representative of Asido, accompanied by José Luis and Jose from the Association’s Representative Committee, thanked the municipal support and stressed the need to join efforts for the association’s projects.
