The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, participated this Thursday, June 12, in the X Ordinary General Assembly of the Association of Business Women, Professionals, Executives, and Entrepreneurs of Cartagena and Region (AMEP), highlighting the fundamental role of the association in local and regional economic development. An event attended by other government members and the municipal corporation.

Alongside the Minister of Business, Employment, and Social Economy, Marisa López, the president of AMEP, Carmen Jerez, and the president of COEC, Ana Correa, the mayor emphasized female leadership as a driver of transformation and job creation.

«AMEP is already a consolidated pillar of the Cartagena business ecosystem and also a reference for the entire Region,» stated Arroyo, who also highlighted the ability of AMEP members to «weave networks capable of transforming realities, generating employment, and opening new opportunities.»

During her speech, the mayor congratulated Carmen Jeréz for assuming the presidency of AMEP, acknowledging her energy and commitment, and also thanking Nuria Castillo for her work leading the association and her current role at CEEIC.

In this regard, Carmen Jeréz also referred to the previous board of directors, highlighting that this Assembly «is special because we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Association and commemorate the entire journey.»

The City Council of Cartagena, in line with AMEP’s vision, works to promote business activity through tools and spaces such as the Business Office, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Development of Cartagena (CEDE), and the Local Development Agency (ADLE), forming a «trident that promotes entrepreneurship and economic activity.»

The mayor highlighted the impact of these initiatives, especially through the «Entrepreneurial Generation» program of the ADLE, which has supported over 180 individuals in 144 supervised projects, with 61 operational companies, and where over 70% of the projects have been led by women, «demonstrating the courage and ingenuity of Cartagena’s entrepreneurs.»

On her part, the Minister of Business emphasized the positive moment in terms of economic dynamism in the Region, where «8 companies are created daily above the national average,» as well as the role that women play in this scenario, with «currently more than 39,000 self-employed women.»

Female Business Leadership

The new Board of Directors of AMEP took office last November, taking over from the team led by Nuria Castillo, now at the helm of CEEIC and honorary president of the association, during whose mandate the number of members increased from 15 to over 180.
�
Since January 2025, there have been more than twenty new member registrations from diverse sectors including construction, real estate services, legal services, financial services, healthcare, digital marketing, and academic training, among others.
