The Finance and Interior Committee, chaired by Councilor Ignacio Judenes, has favorably ruled on the amendment project of the Protocol, Honors, and Distinctions Regulations of the Cartagena City Council.

As previously announced, through this amendment, the City Council will include in the municipal regulations the possibility of temporary sponsorships in the names of public buildings, for cultural, sports, or leisure initiatives. Buildings or facilities that are official headquarters of municipal bodies or institutions will be excluded from this possibility. This is a measure that is already established in other cities, where it is common to name public buildings with commercial names, such as a sports facility or an event venue.

The amendment will also give the Municipal Spokespersons Board a greater role in terms of the initiative for the granting of titles such as Honorary Citizen, Adoptive Citizen, Gold Medal, and Official Chronicler, so that proposals can be analyzed within it before being publicly announced or presented at the Plenary Session, in search of the greatest possible consensus.

Finally, it is proposed to regulate the different awards or recognitions granted by the municipal Government departments, or on the occasion of festivities or patron saints of various services, such as the Local Police or Firefighters, in order to provide them with a procedure and criteria that must be approved in each call by the Local Government Board.

The ruling has received the favorable vote of PP, Vox, and the non-affiliated councilor, Mara Dolores Ruiz; while MC, PSOE, and S Cartagena have abstained.

Lastly, the committee has unanimously ruled favorably on the extension of the collection agreement between the Tax Agency of the Region of Murcia and the Cartagena City Council. This is an agreement signed in 2021 that allows the City Council to collect penalties imposed on residents of other municipalities in the Region, mainly traffic fines, through the regional agency.

Both issues will be on the agenda for the Municipal Plenary Session to be held on Thursday, June 26.
