The monumental lighting of the Archaeological Park of Molinete, promoted by the Cartagena City Council, has been highlighted at the LI National Lighting Symposium held in Logroo, establishing itself as a model to follow in enhancing historical and archaeological heritage through light.

This project, which involved an investment of 274,217 euros, goes beyond mere lighting to become a narrative tool, as stated on the day of its inauguration by Mayor Noelia Arroyo, emphasizing that «this archaeological park gathers traces of all of Cartagena’s history, from antiquity, and the lighting system is created to help us better understand all that history.»

The presentation at the symposium, titled ‘Cerro del Molinete, history told with light’, was given by the Head of the Conservation Service in the Infrastructure Area of the Cartagena City Council, Raquel Snchez, and by Francisco Javier Grriz and Ramn Gomis from Serveo Servicios, the company that carried out the municipal project.

The speakers highlighted that among the most outstanding features of the project is that the lighting is meticulously designed to enhance key elements of the site, from the Roman sanctuary to the mill-hermitage and the wall of Carlos I, allowing for a deeper understanding of the historical richness of Cerro del Molinete.

They also emphasized that the LED technology with low consumption and the latest generation ensures energy efficiency and absolute respect for the environment, in addition to adapting to the characteristics of the terrain and the conservation needs of the site.

Lastly, they explained that with this project, an immersive tourist experience has been achieved, creating itineraries and experiences that allow for nighttime tourist visits, thanks to an advanced control system that enables tour guides to customize the route, illuminating each monument as they progress.

The representatives from Cartagena at the Symposium recalled that the city already has a successful precedent, the lighting of the Castillo de la Concepcin, which was also of interest to this same panel of specialists in 2022.
