“We have come from the City Council to reinforce the ‘Cartagena Brand’ at this fair because it has an international character. We have been at the stand of the Region of Murcia promoting the ‘Gastronomic Destination Strategy’. This fair is a great showcase as it attracts people from over 100 countries, giving us a lot of visibility. That’s why we have decided to be present to promote our gastronomic product,” stated del Álamo.

The councilor of Tourism explained that the gastronomy-tourism combination go hand in hand because, nowadays, tourists choose their destination based on the gastronomy of the area they are going to visit. According to the figures from the previous year 2024, up to 60% of tourists travel influenced by the gastronomy of the destination they are going to visit. This shift in mentality has occurred just a few years ago. The prestige granted by awards such as Michelin Stars and Repsol Suns has helped tourists evolve in that direction. Ultimately, tourism has been unified with gastronomy.

“We are working on promoting our product as we have a unique Mediterranean gastronomy that, in itself, is an added value to the product we treasure. A few years ago, we had very few products but, today, we have a multitude of them and we are expanding with great variety. Last week, we held a ‘Cartagena Gastronomic Destination Fair’ at the port and we ran out of space to showcase all the products, emphasizing that they were all of quality and that’s the line we are working on: ‘Cartagena Brand’ and ‘Quality Gastronomic Tourism Destination Strategy’,” del Álamo explained.
