The local team, UCAM Atletismo Cartagena, will feature some of its most outstanding athletes, who have already shone nationally. Among them, María Jesús Heras, who finished 9th in the 60-meter race at the Spanish U18 Championship held in Valencia three weeks ago; Carolina Madrid, 6th in the 200-meter race in the same championship, and Fátima Hernández, who narrowly missed the medals with a commendable 4th place in the 3000-meter race. In the men’s category, Javier Zapata stands out, finishing 7th in combined events and seeking to be a key player for his team. With a competitive team and great expectations, UCAM Atletismo Cartagena will strive for top positions in an event that promises strong emotions and a great sports spectacle.

INVESTMENT OF 2 MILLION EUROS

This event also marks the official inauguration of the new grandstand at the municipal athletics track, which has double the capacity of the previous one, 900 square meters, a new covered grandstand for 460 spectators, new dressing rooms, a multipurpose room, and a basement. The investment of almost 2 million euros completely changes the aesthetics and functionality of this emblematic municipal facility.

In addition, the building incorporates sustainability and energy efficiency criteria, such as a geothermal installation of renewable energy that will provide hot water to the dressing rooms, as well as a landscaped facade that will help generate oxygen and filter out contaminating particles, dust, and noise, improve air quality, moderate the building’s temperature. A vertical garden has also been created in collaboration with the Faculty of Agronomists at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UCPT), the longest in the Region at 60 meters, designed to help reduce the carbon footprint.
