The new headquarters of the Cartagena Local Police, located in the old Service Station of Cuesta Blanca, will be operational in the summer, when the area experiences a significant increase in population.

The mayor, Noelia Arroyo, who visited the works of the new facilities on Thursday, March 13, which are progressing well and, according to the forecast, will be completed in May, has stated that the City Council is making an unprecedented effort «within our strategy to strengthen security and increase police presence in neighborhoods and districts.»
�
It is a barracks that meets the demands of the residents who have participated in the project development through the Municipal Board and the Neighborhood Association, and will serve all populations in the western area, «it is a strategic action that will allow us to provide a better and much faster response to the needs in terms of citizen security as dictated by the citizens,» said the mayor.
�
During the visit, also attended by the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Ramón LLorca, and the Councilor for Infrastructure, Diego Ortega, the mayor also mentioned that there is a commitment to increasing resources, «we have a planned staff of 363 officers, with the addition of 42 new officers and also positions for 4 commissioners, 10 inspectors, and 21 subinspectors, so we will reach a historic record figure in terms of local police officers.»

«The staff reinforcement has allowed us to specialize our officers by creating new units, including the Citizen Security Section, the GOESC, the Air Media Unit, responsible for operating the Local Police drones; and the Canine Unit,» said Arroyo, who also mentioned that «in the area of Citizen Security, the budget for 2025 is 6.600.000 euros and in terms of material resources, the City Council has invested 800.000 euros so that the officers can carry out their work in the best conditions.»

According to Arroyo, «in recent years, we have worked on the territorial deployment that is being consolidated with the construction of three barracks scheduled in this legislature, this one in Cuesta Blanca, where the works are already well advanced; the second one in Los Dolores, which has recently been tendered; and the third one planned in La Aljorra,» she emphasized.

The work consists of the adaptation of the old gas station, a building of 143.70 m² that will have female and male changing rooms, a cold room and gun safe, toilets, a rest area, and an office for administrative tasks.
�
With a budget exceeding 184,000 euros, the works include the interior demolition of the facilities and the construction of new dependencies with plasterboard and brick partitions, the installation of glazed stoneware flooring and laminated gypsum false ceilings, as well as the pre-installation of electricity, sanitation, and plumbing.
