The Route of the Fortresses fills Cartagena with 5,000 runners this Saturday, including athletes and sportsmen walking the different routes. The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, participated in the starting shot this April 5, which took place next to the Plaza of Heroes of Cavite and Santiago de Cuba shortly after 8 in the morning after the raising of the national flag, in which the Admiral of Maritime Action, Victoriano Gilabert, was also present.

The race has produced two unprecedented winners. The Marine Brigade Francisco González Sierra, a native of Santander, has been the first to complete the 54 kilometers, with a time of 3 hours, 57 minutes and 1 second. The male podium was completed by Juan Antonio Zamora (2nd) and David Fenol (3rd). All three, under four hours. In the female category, the nurse from Cartagena Carmen Martínez Sáez was the first woman to reach the finish line, with a time of 4 hours 54 minutes and 40 seconds. Carmen Ruiz was second (5 hours, 3 minutes, 52 seconds). And Inmaculada Pagán, third place (5 hours, 14 minutes, 32 seconds). As for teams, the first male team to complete the Route was R Entreno, in 4 hours and 44 minutes, led by Ramón Navarro, the winner of the absolute race in 2024.

In the medium-distance race, with a length of 27 kilometers, the first to arrive was Pedro Manuel Paredes, who completed it in 2 hours 2 minutes and 26 seconds. While the first woman, Rebeca Pacheco, reached the finish line after 2 hours, 32 minutes and 26 seconds. The finish line is located at the Marine Infantry School General Albacete Fuster (Tentegorra). DRIVE BY THE CARTAGENA CITY COUNCIL AND THE SPANISH NAVY
�
The 14th edition of this mountain race is driven by the Cartagena City Council and the Spanish Navy. It has on its longest route a length of 54 kilometers, challenging the endurance of runners from all over the country. It passes through emblematic places that cover the 3,000 years of history of Cartagena, such as the Castles of Galeras, Atalayas or Cerro de la Concepción; Sierra Gorda, the Roman Archaeological Park of El Molinete or the Punic Wall.

For this to be possible, the Cartagena City Council along with the Armed Forces and volunteers of the Route of the Fortresses have men and women deployed throughout the route. There are over a thousand people working on the Route of the Fortresses. Among them, the work of the military from the Marine Infantry School, Local Police, Civil Protection, Firefighters, as well as municipal personnel from Infrastructure, Sports, and the cleaning and urban transport concessionaires stand out.

FREE BUSES TO THE FINISH LINE FROM THE SPORTS PALACE

The awards ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m., next to the finish line. Throughout the day, there are free shuttle buses for everyone from this location to the dissuasive parking lot located next to the Sports Palace and Rambla shopping center. In addition, the Tentegorra stop of the bus line 3 is also free. All taxis in the municipality are also operational, as the mandatory rest day has been disabled for today.

For the first time, the race can be watched live anywhere in the world. The live broadcast features aerial cameras, images captured from the runners themselves, a large production deployment, as well as sports and historical commentators, led by José Luis Conesa, from the Runtriton Sports Club, and Juan Lorenzo Gómez-Vizcaíno, from the Association of Castles and Fortresses of Cartagena (Aforca).
