The draw of Levante and the defeat of Racing de Santander this Sunday opened the fight for direct promotion, at least for the second place held by the ‘granota’ team, after matchday 38 of LaLiga Hypermotion.
Julián Calero’s team avoided defeat thanks to Roger Brugué’s 1-1 against a Tenerife that fell short in their difficult mission to stay in the league. The ‘granota’ team, although in extremis and with an improvement in the second half, the point doesn’t help them too much, with their third winless match in the last four.
Levante remains at 67 points, while the leader Elche has 71 points after their win on Saturday at El Plantío, with Racing at 66. The Santander team stumbled in their visit to a relegated Cartagena team that hadn’t won in 19 matches. Dani Luna’s goal tightens the race for direct promotion.
Meanwhile, Almería, now in sixth place with 62 points, thrashed Eldense 5-0, the team in the relegation zone, with a brace from Luis Suárez (27 goals as the top scorer in Segunda), returning to the promotion zone. The defeat of the Alicante team was good for Real Zaragoza, who now have a five-point cushion above the relegation zone, despite struggling to a 1-2 victory against Racing de Ferrol.
Already condemned to mid-table, after fearing for relegation and dreaming of promotion, Deportivo de La Coruña defeated Albacete 5-1 with braces from Yeremay and Zakaria.
