Cartagena will host the next Friday, June 13, at 9:30 a.m., an urban march under the slogan “Walking towards the good treatment of older persons”, with the aim of raising awareness among the public about the importance of respecting and guaranteeing the rights of older persons. This initiative, organized by the Cartagena City Council,�El Corte Ingl�s, and Telecartagena, is already celebrating its third edition.

The march will start from the esplanade of El Corte Ingl�s (Alameda de San Ant�n) and will pass through various points in the city center: Alameda, Plaza de Espa�a, Calle Carmen, Puertas de Murcia, Calle Mayor, to finish at Plaza del Ayuntamiento. From 9:00 a.m., at the starting point, participants can pick up their bib number for free, a cap with the march slogan, and a bottle of water. In addition, attendees are encouraged to carry banners or balloons as a symbol of advocacy and visibility of their rights.

Once at Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the councilor for Seniors, Francisca Mart�nez, and the President of the Federation, Mar�a Beteta, will read a manifesto in favor of good treatment towards older persons. Representatives of associations and groups will also share the Decalogue of Good Treatment. The event will culminate with the playful activity “Move with rhythm”, led by sports monitors from the Cartagena City Council.

This mobilization is part of the activities organized by the Cartagena City Council on the occasion of the International Day of Awareness of Abuse and Mistreatment of Older Persons, which is commemorated on June 15, a date proclaimed by the United Nations to raise awareness about a social and public health problem that affects millions of older persons worldwide. As a Age-Friendly City, Cartagena reaffirms its commitment to inclusion, active participation, and the defense of the rights of this group.

Previous and Complementary Activities

As a prelude to the march, on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m., an intergenerational event will be held on the Day of Play. It will be a petanque workshop at the courts of the Peral neighborhood, where older members of the Vista Alegre club will teach the younger participants from the leisure time workshop of the Children and Adolescents Unit of the Old Town this traditional game.

Additionally, on Monday, June 16, at 6:00 p.m., an intergenerational workshop entitled “For respect and good treatment towards older persons” will take place at the Las Graduadas building, aimed at young people and led by V�ctor Navarro, an agent from the Public Safety School of the City Council (ESPAC).
