The El Albujón rambla maintains a high water level as a result of the rains collected throughout the watershed, and in the last few hours, there has been a decrease in its flow. This was confirmed by the mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, who visited the area accompanied by the councilors of Citizen Security, José Ramón Llorca, and Infrastructure, Diego Ortega.

The point where the rambla reached its highest point is the bridge that connects Cartagena with Torre Pacheco. There, the mayor met with the mayor of Torre Pacheco, Pedro Ángel Roca, and with Civil Protection officials from both municipalities to coordinate the monitoring of the situation in the coming hours. The Regional Emergency Commissioner, Marcos Ortuño, has also joined the operation.

Since Friday, the municipal services of Cartagena have been on pre-alert due to the weather forecasts. According to the City Council, the rains have been persistent and intense at times. On Saturday, more than 100 liters per square meter accumulated in some areas, while in much of the municipality, more than 70 liters per square meter were exceeded.

The Cartagena Local Police have deployed officers at strategic points along the ramblas to monitor their evolution, while municipal services have moved machinery to areas where intervention may be necessary to prevent overflow or clean debris caused by runoff.

INTENSE RAINS, UP TO 100 LITERS

«In these two days, a lot of water has fallen throughout the region, constantly and, at times, intensively. As we have already mentioned, in some places, more than 100 liters per square meter have been exceeded,» explained Arroyo, highlighting that, despite this, «the infrastructures have worked quite well, the water has drained in a reasonable time, and at the moment, it is the ramblas that are collecting these precipitations.»

Regarding the El Albujón rambla, the mayor pointed out that «it is the one that receives the most water in the entire region.» She explained that «at some point, its evolution pointed to a possible overflow, but in the last few hours, we have seen that it has decreased slightly.»

The City Council is monitoring the evolution of the water and the possible impact on the Mar Menor. «We are concerned about the effect that this week of rain may have on the lagoon, but we will be watching its evolution in the coming hours,» Arroyo concluded.
