CALASPARRA (MURCIA), 23 (EUROPA PRESS)
Repsol has detected an «external manipulation unrelated to the company» of the underground pipeline that connects Cartagena (Murcia) and Puertollano (Castilla-La Mancha), which suffered an oil leak on Thursday as it passed through a rural estate in Calasparra.
This was confirmed by company sources to Europa Press, indicating that the incident is already being investigated «by the relevant authorities» and that their operators continue with the cleaning tasks in the area.
It is worth noting that the Civil Guard opened an investigation to determine the causes of the leak, which, according to the Minister of Environment, Universities, Research, and Mar Menor, Juan María Vázquez, could have affected «about 2,000 meters.»
When asked by journalists, Vázquez stated that «the process and evaluation will have to continue daily until this spill is completely decontaminated in an area that is also of special importance.»
The minister, who expressed concern about the situation, said that the important thing is to control the spill, adding that the law, in this regard, «is clear: the polluter pays.»
