Cartagena will celebrate the first edition of the solidarity race ‘I Run for Parkinson’ on Saturday, May 24th, an event to support the work of the Parkinson’s Association of Cartagena, as reported by municipal sources in a statement.
The event is organized by the Parkinson’s Association of the region and has the collaboration of the City Council, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), and the CD Runtritón.
Starting and finishing next to the Sports Palace, the event will offer three modalities for all audiences: a 7-kilometer race, a hiking march, and children’s tests. Race bibs can be acquired on the website ‘Línea de Salida’.
In parallel to the race, there will be an open talk to the public on May 23rd, at 6:00 p.m., at the CIM of the UPCT. Athletes, healthcare professionals, and people with disabilities will address disability and sports during the talk.
During the presentation of the event, the Sports Councilor, José Martínez, highlighted the «social, supportive, and inclusive» nature of the event and emphasized that it is not «just another race on the calendar.»
«It aims to make people aware of this disease and the work of the association led by César Martínez, whom we will support from the City Council in every way,» he said.
On his part, the president of the Parkinson’s Association of Cartagena, César Martínez, thanked the support of the City Council and the collaborators who have made the organization of the event possible. «From the first minute, we have felt that unconditional support,» he stated.
Additionally, he highlighted that the race route will include a special attraction, the passage through the Arsenal of Cartagena, thanks to the collaboration of the Navy.
The Councilor for Social Policy, Cristina Mora, closed the event emphasizing its significance: «It is not just a race. It is a symbol of struggle, unity, and overcoming. In Cartagena, no one walks alone,» she said.
Mora recalled that more than 500 people in Cartagena suffer from Parkinson’s and highlighted the «tireless work» of César Martínez, who «drives each activity with the sole intention of improving the quality of life of others.»
