Fervor por la Piedad en la Procesión de las Promesas

The Procession of Promises this Holy Monday gathered in its route through the central streets of the historic center of the city thousands of Cartageneros and visitors, all united to show their fervor for the Virgin of Piedad, the protagonist of the parade.

The mayoress, Noelia Arroyo, accompanied as godmother to the Virgin’s throne, which this year celebrates the centenary of its arrival in Cartagena as reflected in the previous mass that honored Piedad on the church ramp.

�

Precisely on the occasion of this milestone, the bells of the Church of Santa María de Gracia rang loudly to announce both the departure and the arrival of the Mother, to whom, as is tradition, the last salve of the day was dedicated.

�

A little earlier, as it passed by the basilica of La Caridad, it briefly stopped to sing a salve and make a floral offering to the Patroness.

�

The procession was composed, in front of the Virgin, by the grenadiers, the Holy Chalice, nazarenes, and the thirds of Piedad, and behind them thousands of promises that escorted the Virgin, closing the first of the processions of the Marraja Brotherhood.
