
The mayor highlights the school’s legacy as a pioneering center in dual vocational training and a key element in the socio-economic development of the city

The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, presided over the opening ceremony of the program of activities on the occasion of the centenary of the Baz�n Apprentice School, which marks a century of excellence in vocational training and industrial development of the city, and will take place until October 25.
�
During the inauguration, attended by the Minister of the Presidency, Marcos Ortu�o, the president of the Association of Former Students of the School, Juan Manuel Mar�n, and the president of the Regional Assembly, Visitaci�n Mart�nez; the mayor highlighted the fundamental role of this institution in the history of Cartagena, «the Baz�n Apprentice School has been key to the growth of the municipality as it not only trained professionals but also shaped the character of our city,» the mayor said, recalling that it was the first vocational training school in Cartagena.

Arroyo also emphasized the pioneering spirit of the school, which 100 years ago «already applied a dual training model, combining theory and practice, and also promoted the participation of its students in sports, cultural, and social activities,» in addition «that school put into practice what we would call Corporate Social Responsibility today, so we are talking about a center ahead of its time, they were visionaries,» she emphasized.

According to the mayor, the Apprentice School was a «breeding ground for talents that designed important innovations for Defense, especially submarines for the Spanish Navy and the world,» and that is why today its legacy is reflected «in that ‘triangle of excellence’ of Cartagena, formed by Navantia, the Naval Museum with the submarine of Isaac Peral, and the Technical University, uniting past, present, and future of industry and education in the city,» she added.

In this sense, the president of the Association of Former Students of the school, Juan Manuel Mar�n, announced that after the centenary celebration, they will continue to give talks in training centers in the municipality to encourage and motivate young people and “transfer to the new generations that spirit of work that we had and that they can feel the shipyards, nowadays Navantia, as their own.»

On his part, the Minister of the Presidency, Marcos Ortu�o, wanted to highlight the importance of this celebration, «in which the Regional Government wanted to be present, because it is a great opportunity to reconnect with our History and to recognize the work, effort, and dedication of all the students who passed through this Apprentice School of Baz�n.»

«In Cartagena, which looks to the future without forgetting its roots, we will continue working so that vocational training remains a driving force for opportunities. The Apprentice School opened the way for us and there is no greater tribute than to maintain it,» the mayor concluded, congratulating everyone «for a hundred years of talent, effort, and Cartagena pride.»
