The Cartagena City Council has carried out an improvement intervention in the roundabout located at the intersection of Santiago Ramn y Cajal street with Jorge Juan street, with the aim of optimizing its condition and beautifying the surroundings. The works have consisted of the renovation of the space with new plant species and materials that will facilitate its maintenance.

To improve the maintenance and functionality of the roundabout, a plastic anti-root and anti-weed base was installed for the planting of new species. In the renewed roundabout, two types of Thuja and several specimens of Callistemon have been planted, perennial species with great resistance, ideal for the climate of Cartagena. The lilac Senetti flowers, with abundant and long-lasting flowering, provide a touch of color. Finally, the entire surface has been covered with gravel, which will favor long-term conservation.

As part of the intervention, two olive trees and two carob trees were removed, whose large size hindered the visibility of drivers. The carob trees have been relocated while the olive trees are in the municipal nursery for recovery. Likewise, the old stone delimitation at the edge of the roundabout was removed and filled with soil.

With this intervention, Cartagena City Council’s Infrastructure, through the parks and gardens service, advances in its commitment to the improvement and maintenance of urban spaces, ensuring that these infrastructures are in optimal conditions for the mobility and safety of residents.
