La Guardia Civil has identified a man after being located while sailing at high speed and in a drunken state in the waters of La Azohía, in Cartagena (Murcia), aboard a semi-rigid boat without lights, as reported by sources of the Benemérita in a statement.
The breathalyzer test the man underwent once on land yielded a result of 0.76 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air.
The operation began when Civil Guard officers of the Provincial Maritime Service detected the presence of a pneumatic boat sailing between the buoys that delimit the La Azohía almadraba at high speed and without navigation lights.
Despite the officers’ requests, the sole occupant seemed disoriented and did not follow instructions, showing signs of being under the influence of alcohol with the consequent risk to his safety and that of the other boats in the area.
The Armed Institute, which has collaborated with the Local Police of Cartagena, has reported the alleged violation of the Maritime Safety Law to the Maritime Captaincy.
